Two sizes too small.

What’s wrong with him? Dr. Seuss has an answer in the just-released holiday film The Grinch. When pondering why the Grinch is so nasty, the narrator comes up with a few ideas.

It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.

I’m not sure which is worse, the small heart or the misaligned head attachment? I’d definitely take the shoes too tight!

Have you ever met someone — either across from you or in the mirror — that seemingly had a heart that was two sizes too small? How did it feel?  Something you want to repeat or best to forget?

I know that we’ve all met people — and been the person — who in some moment acted as though our hearts were downsized. However, I don’t think our biggest problem is with our hearts. I think the more limiting problem is with our dreams. When is it that we stop dreaming about, “Being the best hockey player in the world — better than Wayne Gretzky” (3rd Grader) and settle into less grandiose endeavors?

Our hearts are rarely two sizes too small, but our dreams often are. Back to the Grinch. At the end of the movie the Grinch transformed from grumpy to joy-filled. His small heart grew. In the words of Dr. Seuss…

And what happened, then? Well, in Whoville they say - that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day.

What can you do to grow your dreams three sizes? What’s holding you back?
