A lot is at stake.

A big meeting. An important conversation. An important decision.

A lot is at stake.

As a leader at the highest level, the most important preparation you can do is focus on how you plan to show up.

It is not digging into the functional details and building a rock-solid case. (btw - Who on your team would love to help you with that aspect of the preparation?)

I was in a session and my client was sharing the complex details of an upcoming meeting when I interrupted. I encouraged them to pause and take a step back.

What's the purpose of this meeting? Who's attending? How well acquainted are the team/group/participants? Is it a dialogue meeting? Decision meeting? Etc.

Once they stepped back it was easy to see that they were getting in their own way. For this meeting, they needed to show up as their likable self, listen, learn, and possibly (possibly) ask a question.

Life and business can be really complicated. Yes. But sometimes we overcomplicate it because we're too close to it.

Think about an important meeting you have this week. Have you prepared how you plan to show up?
