It's not about time.

As I pivot from full-time employee to entrepreneur, it is an ideal time to pause, reflect, and look ahead.

Two books were influential in shaping my what’s next”. I Know How She Does It by Laura Vanderkam and Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life by Bill Burnett and Dale Evans. I’ll look at the first in this post and the second in the next.

Book #1: I Know How She Does It (applicable to all genders)

This book urged me to track my time by 15-minute increments for two weeks. I didn’t track time for two weeks, but my “ah ha” came after only four days. The data staring at me was clear. My mind accepted and understood immediately. My heart didn’t see as quickly. Over the next few days I reflected and reluctantly let go of the anchored excuse of “not enough time”. The data – data that I had recorded based on my four days – told me there is plenty of time and I waste a lot of it! Ouch…but also energizing. My insight was: The barrier to my “what’s next” is not about having enough time. Time – the age-old excuse – is not the enemy! Thanks, Laura Vanderkam.

Now I look forward to hearing from you.

What would you do differently tomorrow if you “had enough time”?
